I was a freshman in high school when teacher first called me a “Renaissance woman.” Even though she and I were very different, it didn’t inhibit her from seeing that part of my personality. The phrase has stuck with me ever since.
So hi, I’m Allyn Carnahan and I am a bit of a Renaissance woman.
I love trying new things and expanding my talents and knowledge. The storage areas in our house are a testament to the many things I like to try. I cook, crochet, cosplay, craft, DIY, draw, write, and plenty of other things. There are a few constants though. I love reading, running, gourmet coffee (9+ years as a barista), baking, and list making.
I am a wife to a wonderfully patient, yet stubborn man who I refer to as The Hubs. He’s four years younger than me (shocking, I know) yet he acts like an old man. The Hubs is my best friend and we love spending this life together. We share our hearts with our son, Christian, who waits for us in Heaven. And we share our home with five Australian Shepherds, Ahsoka, Clara, Riker, Murdoch, and Guster.
I’m a Nerd
I also speak fluent nerd, a fact of which I am immensely proud. Even before it was popular, I loved and obsessed over geeky things. Each of our dogs is named for a character from one of our favorite geeky franchises.
Some of the things that make my nerd heart happy are Doctor Who, Star Trek movies, Star Trek: TNG, Steampunk novels, Sword of Truth book series, 80’s movies, Psych, comic books, Supernatural, anything with Nathan Fillion, and the original Star Wars trilogy.
I am also a little Disney obsessed…well a lot Disney obsessed. I am a fount of Disney trivia and enjoy a trip, or five, to the parks. I drag the Hubs there all the time, and he has learned to enjoy watching my child-like wonder at Disney magic.
Why I Started This Blog
In 2018 I needed a way to cope with the overwhelming stress and grief of a difficult pregnancy. When my son Christian was born, I needed an outlet but also a way to let people know our story. So I began blogging. In the weeks since I have found a great comfort in connecting with and comforting other grieving mothers. This blog has two purposes. First, to honor the name and life of my precious little boy who still has so much to give this world. Second, to connect with and comfort others who are grieving and dealing with anxiety.
I love connecting with new people and making new friends.
